The Butterfly Effect

2020 was the entire year of major historic events most of which have changed us forever. It has been a demonstration of the butterfly effect, the way a small event in a single part of the globe can inspire a reaction leading to some devastating consequences all over the world.

2020 was also the entire year of the big reset, but we’re hopeful that people will be able to celebrate more fully and become free and joyous once more in 2021.

Colour & Texture

“Texture was hugely vital that you this shoot. From the delicately embroidered butterflies and 3D embellishments around the couture dresses, the edible pearls, bas relief, gold leaf, and sugar butterflies around the cakes towards the tactile spikiness and fluffiness from the dried and fresh flowers.”

“Soft neutrals were the order from the day and also the color palette for that first part from the shoot included various shades of whites, creams, taupe, pastel pinks, and greens interspersed with white laser cut butterflies.”

“For another half of the shoot, darker colors and black laser cut butterflies were added for many contrast and drama. The chosen metallic accent color was gold, which was used through the shoot.”

The Venue

“The setting with this shoot was the gorgeous and spacious Pompadour Summer Terrace in the five stars located in Regents Street London.”

“The historic hotel was founded in 1865 and it has played host to royalty and rockstars. It was recently awarded the Butterfly Mark because of its measurable impact and company-wide resolve for sustainability.”

“The private terrace using its sweeping colonnades are a signature feature of Grade 2 listed building while offering the advantage of a specific open back yard most welcome over these unprecedented times.”

Decor & Details

“The idea ended up being to create the most stylish socially distanced seating arrangement for 6 (comprised of a lucky couple and 4 permitted guests).”

“The lovely monochrome velvet chairs with gold trim were from and supplied the exquisite Anna Marie butterfly plates and Ebony flora chargers, the colored crystal goblets, and also the gold cutlery.”

“WildAbout also designed two luxuriant bouquets, the very first was comprised of dried flowers, fresh Bianca roses, daisies with soft grasses, and delicate ferns. The darker bouquet would be a mix of black magic red roses, pink David Austin roses, black cosmos and berries, black eucalyptus, and delicate ferns.”

Luxury Wedding Cakes

Luxury wedding cake designer Elizabeth Solar of Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium made a suite of dreamy butterfly-themed wedding cakes…

“For the lighter side from the shoot, the primary cake would be a 5 tiered wafer paper confection using the wafer paper ruffles designed to match one from the wedding dresses, also it was decorated by having an explosion of white sugar butterflies.”

“The second cake would be a 4-tier contemporary cake with abstract wafer paper sails reminiscent of the flight of butterflies. The third, featured delicate edible pearls, gold leafing, and countless tiny wafer paper butterflies.”

The Gowns

“The first, Juno, is a romantic tulle and silk georgette mermaid wedding dress incorporating bodice panels of antique Edwardian lace. A dreamy dress with elbow-length volume sleeves along with a high neck, it provides a flutter of lace butterflies around the dress and delicate silk buttons on the back.”

“The second dress, Psyche, is named for that butterfly winged goddess from the soul. A dramatic V-necked dress, it’s covered in black embroidered butterflies with Swarovski jet studded wings fluttering amongst iridescent flowers of gold thread and violet comet pearls.”

“Gowns are modeled by a successful West-End Musical actor, in additional normal times available on stage at The London Palladium (Joseph), London Coliseum (The English National Opera’s The Merry Widow), Royal Albert Hall (Young Frankenstein).”

“But since live theatre has a particularly hard time during the pandemic and all sorts of our valued theatre creative careers take a prescription pause until the coming year we were particularly pleased that Harriet could bring her talents to deal with for our shoot.”

Hair & Beauty

“The bridal beauty was delivered through the wonderfully talented duo of make-up artist and Liz of, who formed an excellent team for the Butterfly shoot.”

“For the very first lighter look, the bride’s makeup was kept fresh, dewy, and natural, enhancing her naturally glowing complexion. Harriet’s halo of tumbling ringlets was arranged inside a loose textured updo, framing her face with loose tendrils.”

“For the 2nd look, the constitute was more dramatic having a smoky eye and berry-stained lips, and hair left longer and fuller having a loose side sweep. For both the hairstyles Liz added some delicate wired embroidery butterflies to enhance the gowns.”
